Orthotic insoles can sometimes be required to treat specific biomechanical problems.
East Devon Podiatry offers a comprehensive biomechanical assessment in relation to foot, ankle and knee problems. Subsequent treatment plans vary depending on what conditions are identified. Orthotics (sometimes referred to as insoles) may well be prescribed as part of that plan. We will soon be able to provide bespoke orthotics for adults and treat a wide range of medical conditions. Until such time as we can provide bespoke orthotics we are still able to provide a wide variety of off the shelf orthotics which are a lot cheaper, and in most instances are completely sufficient. These can also be customised according to the needs highlighted from your biomechanical assessment.
Orthotics are specialist medical devices which are designed and fitted to an individual’s footwear to provide one or more of the following:
- stabilisation of a joint or joints
- reduction of pain
- improvement in mobility or performance
- reduction in the risk of injury
- off load pressure
- improve foot function
- achieve anatomical alignment
Once we’ve ordered the correct orthotic insole for you we will arrange a fitting appointment. At this appointment the orthotic will be checked in footwear and advice will be given regarding wearing them in. We will review you in clinic six weeks later
